What Am I?

In episode 2 of Yumi’s Cells Season 2, the Cells in Cell Land over-analyze Bobby’s words. With Detective Cell on the scene, he’s concerned but with Yumi’s self-esteem rising, the other Cells hurry into the hospital to see Love Cell. However, she’s still in a coma from what happened with Woong.

Love is the one who decides what happens in the relationship, and she doesn’t want this to be a rebound. So because of this, they’re going to have to reject Bobby’s offer. ..

Yumi is at work afterthough, as she only manages to get a few words from Bobby as a greeting. She interprets this as him being annoyed with her and ends up deliberating over what’s going on.

She decides to run to the bus stop, but she misses the bus.

Detective Cell believes that Yumi stayed the night with Bobby, and that she got ready at his place.

Yumi is letting her imagination run wild and doesn’t know what’s really going on.

Yumi ends up being cold and distant toward Bobby at work because of this. It becomes more awkward that night when Yumi ends up out drinking and eating with Ruby, Yi-Da, and Bobby.

Yumi shows her brilliance by ordering a good amount of food and drink, working her way around the menu. While there, Ruby asks Bobby about his love life, but he mentions that he was recently rejected. He doesn’t mention Yumi though. ..

Bobby and Yumi ended up getting the bus home together, but it was awkward and Yumi was annoyed. Bobby tried to start a conversation with her, but when that failed, he eventually decided to get off the bus. He realized he was making her uncomfortable and she was shocked. ..

Bobby called Yumi and told her that he was just misunderstood and that he wanted to talk to her. When the bus arrived, they got off and talked. Bobby said “I wish the bus didn’t come” and it seemed like Love Cell woke up. ..

Yumi begins to feel a strong romantic interest in Bobby after the other Cells begin to double down on their feelings. Yumi tries to keep herself in check and even rejects Bobby’s offer for lunch. He probes her over Yumi’s true feelings though, hoping they can still be friends. He even buys her lunch to and returns it to her desk.

These little moments continue through the episode, as the pair meet while out shopping. Yumi shares her fried egg umbrella with Bobby, and he takes her back home again.

Ruby tells Yumi that Bobby is going on a blind date and Yumi is clearly disappointed.

The Episode Review

In the first episode, we saw Yumi’s guarded nature and how it affects her relationship with Bobby. We know that Bobby is aware of her break-up and he seems to be supportive. In this episode, we see Yumi’s reaction to Bobby and how she’s afraid that he’ll hurt her. We can tell that she doesn’t want to get hurt by Bobby and he seems to understand this. This makes sense because Yumi has been through a lot in her life and she doesn’t want anyone to hurt her again.

It seems that he too has seen her crying emoji and his encouraging “hang in there” could be in reference to this.

In this episode, Bobby has some great moments that help build his character. Whether it be letting himself get drenched so Yumi stays dry or getting off the bus so she’s not uncomfortable, he really is such an amazing guy.

This season’s story arc is expected to drag on for a while, although with only 14 episodes it’s a little disappointing we haven’t had the full 16 to play with!

In Yumi’s Cells, the humor continues to be a strong presence. Seeing Yumi “running” through the park just so she can see Bobby is one such example, although the sales department meeting was also quite funny.

This season has been more organic and cute than the second. The humour has been less second-hand and more natural, which is a nice change. The style has been subtly changed with a new relationship.

The second season of Yumi’s Cells is shaping up to be just as good as the first, with an ending that hints at envy and jealousy playing a part next week. ..
