What is The Serpent Queen Season 1 about?
The Serpent Queen is a darkly satirical look at the life of Catherine de’ Medici, who married into the French court as an orphaned teenager expected to bring in a fortune in dowry and produce heirs. The story follows her through her teenage years, as she struggles to make ends meet and navigate the world of high society.
Catherine’s dream is shattered when she learns her husband is in love with an older woman and he can’t conceive children. Catherine tries to keep her marriage going – and rule France for thirty years.
Has The Serpent Queen been renewed for season 2?
Starz has renewed The Serpent Queen for a second season. This is a good news for the show as they have a good track record with renewing their historical dramas. It’s also unsurprising to find this one renewed as the success of The White Queen and The Spanish Princess have shown that Starz is not afraid to invest in these types of shows.
The ratings for this show have been much higher than that of Becoming Elizabeth, which was recently announced to have been cancelled.
We’re happy to report that this has definitely been renewed.
What we know about season 2 so far:
Starz has only just green-lit a sequel to season 1, which means that there is very little information about what will happen in season 2. This leaves open the possibility that the ending of season 1 could be more ambiguous and interesting than we initially thought.
The release of the 2023 movie should be expected to be quite exciting, with a lot of fourth-wall breaking and drama. In terms of the release date, it is expected to happen around September-October in that year.
