Netflix has been a roll recently with their various dating shows. From Love Is Blind to Dating Around, the streaming platform has really settled into a consistent rhythm with these different titles. Next up on the ever-evolving list of shows in this genre is Indian Matchmaking. Taking the best elements from both of those aforementioned shows, Indian Matchmaking manages to both educate on the arranged marriage process and entertain with its array of eccentric and interesting people along the way.
Mumbai’s number one matchmaker Sima Taparia takes you on a tour of her resume and why she’s so good at matchmaking. She then greets different singles and draws up a list of their desired traits, which she uses to find compatible bachelors. It’s a pretty simple set-up and each episode bleeds into the next with plenty of successful (and not so successful) meetings taking up much of the screen-time.
Indian Matchmaking is a documentary series that follows the lives of people who have chosen to get married through Indian Matchmaking. The show starts off with the preconceptions that people have about arranged marriages, and then tries to break those stereotypes by showing the different types of matches that are made through Indian Matchmaking. If you’re not sold by the first episode, it’s unlikely you’ll continue watching. ..
The open endings to these episodes keep you interested in the story, even if the ending is a bit anticlimactic. This is what makes the show so captivating, and keeps you watching even after the final reveal.
The show is great because it has a variety of different elements that work together to create a unique experience. The splash screen with the different features listed on it is also really funny and entertaining. Alongside the likable characters, you will want to root for their marriages to be successful.
Indian Matchmaking is a lighthearted reality show that is easy to watch and enjoyable. There is a consistent tone throughout this series that makes both Sima highly likable and knowledgeable. She is patient enough to match up some of these picky men and women in the best possible way. While it is unlikely to make a big splash in the streaming world, there is enough originality to this one to make enough of a ripple to definitely check out. ..
