The worst TV shows of the year are those that are poorly written, poorly produced and have a terrible script. These TV shows often lack any sense of story or logic, and often feel like they were made by someone who was just trying to make a quick buck.

  2. The Office – The show was cancelled after only two seasons and received negative reviews from viewers and critics.

Kardashians

Servant Season 3

How I Met Your Father

He’s Expecting

Blockbuster

Netflix’s decision to release a sitcom from Blockbuster, no less, was a big flop this year. While the show may not be as bad as other Netflix comedies on this list, it’s a poor showing all round. The characters are underdeveloped, the scripts lacking in creativity, and the whole project feels like a poor man’s version of Superstore or Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

The Kardashians

The Kardashian family’s season of reality TV was a mess. The show was poorly executed and carefully curated by the Kardashians themselves, who were clearly trying to cover up all the drama that happened in their lives. This show felt more like damage control than anything else.

This show is a perfect example of how to propagate a specific message rather than actually showing the “real” part of reality.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens was met with mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. Some were excited to see the franchise return after a decade-long absence, while others were disappointed with the changes made to the classic characters and story. One of the most controversial changes was the casting of actor John Boyega as Finn, a character originally played by Scottish actor Peter Mayhew. Disney’s decision to cast an unknown actor in place of an established veteran led to negative reactions from some fans who felt that Disney was disrespecting the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and other iconic characters from the original trilogy. This controversy came ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ release, as Disney attempted to preempt any negative press by releasing a statement saying that they “respect[ed] all fan opinions.” ..

The film was poorly made and had continuity errors galore. Obi-Wan Kenobi was sidelined for Leia, which made the story feel unfinished and unfulfilled. The plot contrivances and Deus ex machina were also a bit too convenient.

Our full season review for Obi-Wan can be found here.

Surface

Apple TV’s Surface is a woefully bland and drawn-out mystery, with a lack of memorable characters or a compelling story.

The plot of this novel feels like it’s been done before, but the flashbacks and central cast are never really convincing. The main character has anesia and tries to remember key events in their life, but the flashbacks feel like well-trodden ground and the central cast is never really cohesive. The ending is also a cliffhanger, which is always a sign that something will happen next.

Our full season review for Surface is available here!

Resident Evil

Netflix’s Resident Evil series had little in common with the games or source material, and was instead a cheesy teen drama. ..

Resident Evil is a series that has been distorted by modern writers to fit their own sensibilities.

The show is poorly written, has terrible acting, and is just plain boring. It’s not worth your time or money.

Our Resident Evil review has all the details on what we thought of the new season. ..

Green Mother’s Club

The Green Mother’s Club is an overlong, tonally confused mess that unfortunately outstays its welcome long before the 16 episodes are up. A show like this lives or dies by its characters and the Green Mothers Club’s ensemble is a bit of a washout.

The show is a mix of family dramas, mystery melodramas, and soap operas. However, none of these genres work together very well, producing a mediocre drama that could have been much better.

Our full season review for Green Mother’s Club is available here!

Locke and Key Season 3

Netflix’s Locke and Key ended with a bang, but it was not the result of a well-executed plan. The show’s writers were instead forced to make do with what they had, and that included a rushed finale that left much to be desired. The finale was also rife with contrivances and poor writing, which made it difficult to follow the story.

While the final episode at least tries to salvage some of the damage, it feels like it was too little, too late by that point. ..

Locke and Key Season 3 is a great season of TV that you should check out. The show is full of action, suspense, and mystery.

Virgin River Season 4

The showrunners of Virgin River decided to go all out with Season 4, and it paid off. The episodes were more exciting, the story was more interesting, and the characters were more engaging. The soap opera felt like it was on the right track again.

In the fourth season of “The Good Place,” the showrunners once again use dramatic cliffhangers to lull viewers into watching the next episode. However, this time, it occurs for almost every single episode. In one instance, we timed how long it took for the “big drama” to resolve itself. 4 minutes and 24 seconds.

Season 4 of “The Walking Dead” is a worthy addition to this list. The meandering drama and unsatisfying character arcs make it a less than satisfying experience. ..

Our review of Virgin River Season 4 is now available. Check it out to get all the details on what happened in this season of the show! ..

Servant Season 3

AppleTV’s promising horror/mystery series returns with a meandering, lackadaisical story that doesn’t really do anything particularly impressive with its 10 episode run-time.

The show starts off promisingly with a bang, but quickly falls into a pattern of dull, uneventful episodes. The plot is rather unimaginative and the characters are forgettable. This makes the show feel like it has been wasted on you, and it’s a shame because there could have been so much more to this series if it had taken its time to develop its ideas.

In Servant season 3, the story follows the servants of a noble family as they are forced to serve their new master. The servants are often used as pawns in games between the master and his advisors, and must constantly prove themselves to be loyal and obedient.

Suspicion

Apple TV has been pretty quiet this year with only a few original series released. This new show from Apple is pretty surprising given the platform’s lack of content.

Suspicion could have been a great show. On paper, the premise is actually quite intriguing. Unfortunately, a bloated run-time, way too many plot contrivances and a really poor ending create a cataclysm of errors that are hard to ignore. ..

The show’s visuals may be good, but some of the editing is questionable. The first few episodes are so poorly handled, whiplashing between characters and refusing to let any of these characters grow and lean into their personas.

This one is relentless in its pursuit, never letting up until it hits the finish line.

Suspicion season 2 is available now on Netflix.

Thirty Nine

Thirty Nine had all the ingredients to be a certified hit. Fresh off the success of Crash Landing on You, Son Ye-Jin fronts a line-up of talented stars in a slice of life healing drama that – on paper at least – looks incredible. Unfortunately, Thirty Nine’s execution leaves a lot to be desired. The premise of Thirty Nine is intriguing: A group of friends gather together to help one another heal after the death of one of their members. However, the execution falls flat due to inconsistent writing and poor character development. The plot meanders and feels unfinished, making it difficult to invest in the characters or care about what happens to them. Additionally, some scenes are so graphic and violent that they verge on gratuitousness and ruin what could have been an emotionally powerful story. ..

The show “Stranger Things” is 3 episodes too long and it butchers the development for almost all the main characters. Some of that stems from the overall focus which feels torn between which character should be the main protagonist. ..

The show is a mess, with little focus on either Joo-Hee or the characters around him.

Thirty Nine is an excellent show that should not be missed. ..

The Guardians of Justice

Diamond Dallas Page, a wrestler turned entrepreneur, has launched an indie superhero show called “The Outsiders.” The show is a departure from the typical superhero fare, and it’s not clear if it will be a success. ..

The seven episodes of “Arrow” fly by like a hyperactive child that’s just eaten several packs of smarties. The show rockets through its story, leaving little time for characterization, depth or wiggle room to allow the world and characters to breathe. As a result, this breathless pace also breezes past the comedy, which largely fall flat, along with an underwhelming narrative. ..

Guardians of Justice is an action-adventure game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco. It was released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 25, 2017. The game is a sequel to the 2010 game Dark Souls, and the first game in the Souls series.

Last Light

The novel is set in a future world where a cataclysmic event has destroyed most of the Earth’s population. The survivors are forced to live in underground shelters, where they must use their ingenuity and courage to survive. But even in the darkest of times, there is hope. One man, named John, has found a way to send light into the dark places he lives in. John’s story is full of adventure and hope, and it will take all of John’s strength and courage to make it out alive.

Last Light is a terrible game that should not be streamed on Peacock’s platform.

Last Light is an intense and gripping action game that will keep you hooked from start to finish. The game is set in the future and follows the story of a group of people who are trying to escape from a city that has been destroyed. The graphics are stunning and the gameplay is very exciting.

The Time Traveler’s Wife

Steven Moffat is back with another timey-wimey series but unfortunately this is less Doctor Who and more doctored mess. The Time Traveler’s Wife is a time travel disaster, with poor plotting and characterization throughout. ..

The Time Traveler’s Wife is a sweeping romance about the changing nature of people and the complex nature of falling in love. It’s not a love story.

Our full season review for The Time Traveler’s Wife is available here!

How I Met Your Father

The How I Met Your Mother remake was met with mixed reviews from fans of the original show. While some found the humour to be on par, others found it to be bland and unoriginal. The jokes fell flat, the scenarios poorly contrived, and the entire project felt like a B-version of the superior original. ..

Echoes

The airport thriller is a genre that often relies on the suspense and mystery of its characters and plot. However, in Echoes, the story feels like it’s been ripped from a different book altogether. The characters are cardboard cutouts, the plot is convoluted and the ending feels forced.

The premise of this show is cliched and the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The seven episodes make up a muddled thriller that should have been further fleshed out in the writer’s room.

Echoes is a show that doesn’t quite have the same level of quality as CW productions, but it’s not exactly going to light up the small screen anytime soon.

Echoes is a new horror game that was released on the Xbox One and Playstation 4 platforms. The game has received mixed reviews from gamers, with some praising the graphics and others criticizing the gameplay. ..

Chosen

Chosen is a new show that I’ve been following for a while. It’s a mystery show with a twist, and it’s definitely worth your time.

Netflix’s Chosen is a show that tries to do something different than most. It has poor dialogue, a poorly written protagonist, and some questionable logic. This show definitely isn’t one to write home about.

Chosen is a new show on Netflix that follows the story of two half-siblings who are chosen to be the next guardians of an ancient artifact. The show is set in a world where people can switch bodies with others, so the siblings must figure out who is really who and protect the artifact from those who want to use it for their own gain. ..

Stay Close

Netflix has given Harlan Coben the green light to produce a new series of his murder mystery adaptations, Stay Close. The show is set in a small town in upstate New York and follows the Detectives Tom and Jerry as they try to solve the murders of two women. The first episode was released on Netflix on October 15th and it’s not looking good for Coben.

The premise of Stay Close is flawed from the get-go. The protagonist, a woman who has been married for years and has children with her husband, is sent to stay with her family in a remote cabin after their home is destroyed in a fire. While there, she meets and falls in love with the son of the owner of the cabin. However, shortly after she arrives, her husband is found dead in his room with a gunshot wound to the head. It’s not until much later that it’s revealed that he was killed by his wife who had been trying to get him to leave her for another woman. The rest of the story follows his widow as she tries to piece together what happened and why her husband died. While it’s an interesting plot development, it’s also one that feels shoehorned into the story at times and feels like an unnecessary addition.

The entire premise of “Stay Close” relies on contrivances, conveniences and clumsy police work. When applied to any sort of logic, these three ingredients completely crumble. ..

Summertime Season 3

Teen dramas are a dime a dozen these days, but each one has its own unique appeal. Recent heart-wrenching series like Heartstopper and Euphoria are perfect for those who love dark and gritty storylines, while others like Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars offer lighter fare with plenty of drama. Whatever your preference, there’s sure to be a show that fits the bill. ..

The summer season has always been a time for growth and change, but this year’s installment of Summertime feels like it’s stuck in the past. The storylines are convoluted and the characters are one-dimensional, all while the visuals are lackluster.

This year’s story is very familiar and doesn’t offer much in the way of surprises, twists or turns. Netflix and the team did a great job wrapping up this one with an actual ending, but a feature film would have been far more fitting for this. Instead, we get another 8 episodes of formulaic and overdone drama. Everything here has been done before – and better – elsewhere.

Our full season review for Summertime Season 3 can be found here.

The Pentaverate

The Pentaverate is a series that feels overstuffed with information and cheap gags. The characters are never developed and the social critique is not nearly clever enough to make up for that.

The show’s humor is often forced and not very funny. It does not elevate the story to the level it could be. The lack of plot points and lack of humor make it difficult to keep up.

Our full season review for The Pentaverate is available here!

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) Season 3

Love, ft. Marriage and Divorce, has a poor track record when it comes to storytelling, character development and everything else you’d expect in a competent drama. Yet somehow, the show manages to remain incredibly popular… and something very watchable. ..

This soap opera feels like a computer program has written the scripts, with random bouts of drama, long, drawn-out chapters where not much happens and generally delivering a season of directionless drama. Sure that may be good for some people, but somehow season 3 is even worse than what’s come before it – and that’s saying something.

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) is a series that is full of twists and turns. It is an interesting show to watch, and it will keep you entertained from beginning to end. ..

God’s Favorite Idiot

The show’s premise is that a man who has been declared clinically insane by doctors is sent to a mental institution. He then escapes and starts living as a normal person, but the people who know him know he’s still crazy. The show follows his interactions with the people around him and his attempts to live a normal life. While the show has its moments, it’s not worth your time or money. In most parts, it comes across as trying too hard to be funny, which only makes things worse. The beat remains the same; the joke is again something crass, facetious, and woefully misplaced and detached from the context. ..

The 2000s were a time when themes like “pleasurable sauna” and “genital scent perfumes” were popular. In hindsight, these themes may not have been necessary or even relevant. There are very few positives to be found in this decade. ..

Heirs to the Land

Based on the novel by Ildefonso Falcone, Heirs to the Land is a Spanish period drama that impresses with its intricate production design, beautiful cinematography, and a dramatic saga with intensely high stakes. However, hollow trappings that fail to obscure flat characterization and lack of emotional depth make this a forgettable watch.

Hugo Llor is a fictional character, but the show weaves in real historical settings, political figures, and religious strife between Christians and Jews. Unfortunately, Heirs doesn’t incorporate much of this rich historical context in any compelling way. ..

The show is an antiquated, insensitive foray into 1300’s Barcelona. Heirs to the Land may be set in the 14th century, but we hope its writers and creators know they don’t have to be stuck there.

Our full season review of Heirs to the Land is available here. ..

Hold Tight

Although Hold Tight is a well-made effort, it falls short of Coben’s usual standards. The story is slow to develop, and the characters are one-dimensional. The setting is also rather uninteresting, and the ending feels a bit too convenient. Overall, Hold Tight is an okay adaptation, but it’s not as good as Coben’s more famous works.

While there are some good ideas at work, the story is overshadowed by an overwhelming amount of mediocrity and a dragged out resolution.

Our full season review for Hold Tight is available here. ..

He’s Expecting

He’s Expecting is not as bad as the IMDB rating would have you believe (2.5/10?), but its biggest problem comes from its pacing and tone. ..

The show is a mess. It’s a confusing mess with a main plotline that’s both controversial and nonsensical. The characters are poorly drawn and the writing is poor. This anime needs to be improved before it can be considered good.

While the social commentary is clear, the execution is more messy and haphazard. Despite a runtime of around 4 hours, He’s Expecting outstays its welcome long before that. ..

Our full season review for He’s Expecting can be found here!

Forecasting Love and Weather

This K-drama is definitely cloudy with a chance of disappointment. JTBC’s latest offering flatlines into mediocrity long before its 16 episode run is up. The forecast for this K-drama is definitely cloudy and there’s a good chance that it will disappoint viewers before it even finishes airing.

That’s a shame because there are some nice ideas here, including the symbiotic relationship between weather and emotion, as well as showcasing some big K-stars. Unfortunately, that’s not enough to save this sinking ship.

The tone of the show is bizarre, switching between melodrama and comedic moments, sometimes entangled together in really awkwardly contrived moments. Not only that, but the show ships a second couple with very questionable morals, deciding this is a couple we should root for. ..

The showrunners have decided to shift the tone of the show and it’s not working well for either the leads or the audience. The lack of chemistry is apparent from the beginning and it doesn’t get better as the episodes go on.

Our full season review of Forecasting Love and Weather is available here. ..

Elite Season 6

Elite’s sixth season is a disappointment. Most of the central cast has been replaced by younger models, and the story now values style over substance. The murder mystery isn’t even a murder and there’s very little in the way of mystery either. ..

This year’s Elite has disappointed many, with only a few high-quality episodes to show for it. Blasé would probably be a better title, as this season6 was an unfortunate misfire.

Elite is a great game that you should definitely check out. ..

Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power

The Dark Knight Rises was a billion dollar production that fractured the fanbase ahead of release. It did so with one of the most boring adaptations of Tolkien’s work. ..

Galadriel is a terrible protagonist. The plot is poorly plotted, with pseudo-intellectual dialogue that’s as nonsensical as it is humorous. And who could forget our characters shrugging off a pyroclastic flow from a volcano?

Jeff Bezos wanted his own Game of Thrones, but he got a disastrous final season all over again. ..

Our full season review of Rings of Power can be found here. ..

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law

Marvel’s She-Hulk is a sex-positive show for kids, but some critics say it’s horniest series yet. ..

Marvel’s She-Hulk is a poorly written, morally dubious adaptation of the character that falls short in terms of action and excitement. The show has a lack of interest in its characters and is instead focused on providing dull exposition.

Marvel’s She-Hulk delivers a new low for the MCU with an exciting episode depicting our protagonist waiting for a text, and lots of chapters about getting drunk and having one night stands. ..

Our full season review for She-Hulk is up! Check it out!

Killing Eve Season 4

Killing Eve is a show that leans heavily on its ending to make an impact. With a big fight promised against “The Twelve”, this espionage thriller had all the ingredients to be a showstopper. However, the final fight to stop them HAPPENS OFF-SCREEN. This makes for an exciting and suspenseful finale that leaves viewers wanting more.

Killing Eve was a huge disappointment. The plotlines and character tropes were not well executed, and the ending was insulting. ..

In the end, the killing of Eve will be remembered as one of the worst endings to a TV show in recent memory. The ending was so botched that it left viewers feeling cheated and angry.

Our full season review for Killing Eve is available here!
