Harper is curious about the letters and decides to take a look for himself. He finds them in her backstage locker, along with other personal items. He is shocked to find out that she has been writing to him, and has even sent him money. He decides to confront her about this, but she won’t answer his questions. Harper leaves Teenie’s feeling upset and frustrated.
Klaras sister tells Harper that she took the watch from her room and ran out to get a ice cream. Harper is not happy with this answer and demands to know where the watch came from. The Sister tells Harper that she found it in Klara’s room when she was cleaning up.
Harper caught up to Klara outside and showed her the watch. He said that he was taking “what he’s owed” and concocted a story to Klara, claiming he ducked under the bed and wasn’t spotted. ..
After a few days of investigating, Harper and Leo find that the house they were looking for is actually connected to a watch that’s been linked to a murder. The man who owns the house is also hiding in the closet with a gun, and he may be connected to the murder as well.
The man starts asking what time it is. Harper ignores him and quizzes the man about his watch. This man ignores Harper and rushes outside, subsequently getting hit by a car. Moments prior to this, things took a bizarre turn when Harper and Leo found bank notes, a book from 1973, and all manner of anachronistic trinkets. ..
The man Harper is interviewing believes that he is an importer of illegal drugs, while the woman Harper is interviewing claims that “Inside here… things become something else.” Harper insists that the house they are visiting is some sort of portal and the doorway is the key to all of this, according to his theory. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this but it just happens.
Klara tells Harper that she doesn’t want to be with someone who is constantly going back through the portal. Harper insists that it’s just a way to see his family, but Klara isn’t convinced. She tells him that she loves him and wants to be with him, but he can’t keep doing this to her. ..
Harper walks out the back door and finds Klara. Klara can’t remember any of this though, as it’s not her house. Harper has his way with her, punching her in the face and continuing to assault her off-screen. ..
As the episode comes to a close, we see Harper again as he heads back in time to the same bar, deep in the heart of the 1990s. He gets himself a drink and sets his sights on his latest target… Kirby. ..
The Episode Review
This episode of “Harper’s Island” goes some way to explaining how Harper has been able to time travel and keep himself hidden all these years. We still don’t quite see how this house works or the intricate bells and whistles, but this is a solid chapter nonetheless. ..
It seems that time has been rewritten in that Jinny didn’t actually die on the fateful night, but then we get into murky territory of parallel universes, shifting realities and all manner of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey situations that I’m sure the next few chapters will clarify. ..
This flashback bottle episode works really well to flesh out Harper’s history, and his ties with Kirby. Hopefully the episodes ahead will expand on this further.
