The Woman Who Knew Too Much

Veronica begins her Good Morning Veronica video with a passionate plea to those watching on their phones. “In order to protect the ones we love, we must make the difficult decisions.” As she starts crying, we cut back 24 hours earlier to see Veronica in her bedroom, sobbing after making a decision that will affect many people. ..

Carvana finds out that Vero is snooping around her office and questions what she’s doing. However, Verro is the one asking questions now and he talks to her about her Father’s death, hit, and just what happened in the past.

It has been revealed that her Father was part of an elaborate car-selling scheme, but he wanted to come forward and reveal the truth. Carvana ended up involved thanks to a series of favours, but he claims to be just a small fish. ..

Veronica is frustrated as she tries to get information from the Carvana. She’s not getting anywhere and her only hope is to find a safe place to stay and wait out the situation. The Carvana tells her that the police force is her only shield right now, but Veronica isn’t convinced. She wants to know who the bosses are and what their plans are.

That evening, Veronica facetimes her family and tells Paulo what happened, including handing in her badge at the station. Sobbing, Vero tells her family she loves them very much and packs her suitcase.

Meanwhile, Claudio buries his wife up at the ranch before heading back to the house. He collects up all of Janete’s clothes and belongings, stuffing them in a bag. However, he hesitates when he notices the crossword puzzles and a series of numbers. Ringing through, he gets Carvana’s number at homicide and immediately hangs up. ..

Veronica makes her decision to investigate the abandoned ranch and finds that it is connected to the location of the missing crosswords.

Nelson reveals that Carvana has gone missing. As we’ve seen from an earlier scene, he was tasered and carried away by Claudio. ..

Claudio abandoned his car and his digger in a crossword puzzle clue that led Vero to believe he was in the area. She uses the clues to try and find him, but finds him digging a grave instead.

Claudio Carvana lies motionless on the ground, shot multiple times. Vero points his gun at Claudio’s chest and pulls the trigger, but he turns the gun on Vero and fires. Vero is forced to watch this man die before her eyes. ..

Veronica is overcome with grief after finding her husband, Claudio, wounded in the woods. She goes on a search for him and comes across the bunker where he is hiding. Veronica tasers Claudio and leaves him unconscious on the ground. She then puts a box over his head and sets it on fire, killing him for what he did to Janete. ..

Veronica heads to the Chief Carlos’ office to discuss the latest developments at the station. Nelson rings while she’s en route and reveals that she’s the main suspect in Carvana’s death.

It turns out that the Chief is working with Anita too, leaving Veronica with yet another roadblock to tackle. With nowhere else to turn, Vero leaves the message for herself on the bridge and turns the gun on herself and fires.

We follow the police investigation into the death of 15 people on a ranch in Texas. Only nine of the bodies have been identified, and Vero is presumed dead.

As we soon see, she’s actually still alive but adopting Janete’s identity and hiding out at Prata’s apartment. Determined to continue hiding from her family, she’s instead going to take down this “mafia” infesting Brazil.

She’s not going to the press though and instead decides to do things her way. As we cut across to a choking Gregorio in a restaurant, it appears her way is poisoning and killing people. ..

The Episode Review

The finale of “Good Morning Veronica” left many viewers feeling disappointed. The show had been building up to a thrilling climax, but instead delivered an anticlimactic ending that completely changed the tone of the series. This shift away from what made the show popular was a disappointing turn for an otherwise good show. ..

The show was strong in its exploration of the issues that young women face, and the cat-and-mouse game between Claudio and Janete was engaging. There were real stakes at play, as Janete’s life, family and wellbeing were on the line.

After Janete’s death, Vero’s murder of Claudio leaves the show with little intrigue in its corrupt police angle. This angle has been seen before and there is not enough to make this stand out next to other crime dramas. ..

This season has been a bit of a letdown for me. I hope that the second season will be better.

That’s to say nothing of Veronica, who turns from a straight cop at the beginning to a full-on killer at the end. Her moral compass and desire to do right by the law and these girls is partly what made her such an empathetic character.

Now, we’re seeing her poisoning people and watching them burn; it loses what made her so compelling despite this serving as a commentary on corruption. ..

If a second season is green-lit, I hope this show returns to its predecessor’s strengths. With Vero on the run and a more thriller-esque story on the horizon though, this one may be in danger of becoming action-driven mediocrity.
