Day 30/1
The Wilds Season 2 starts with all the girls reflecting on the horrific ordeal they endured on the island. Specifically, what happened to Nora on the beach. As they all discuss how bad things got, we jump back to see things from the boys’ perspective.
We’re told that this “retreat” will help us better understand how to live a healthy life, but what we really need is a video montage of the kids before they go. We can see how happy and healthy they look, and it only reinforces the idea that this is a bogus trip.
Rafael tells us about the day he and Daniel were taken. They were driving to the retreat when they were pulled over by the police. Rafaelson claimed he was driving without a license, but when they searched his car they found a fake license. The police took them both into custody and Dean was able to get away with it.
Josh is struggling to hold it together, crying on the beach. Lacrosse dude Kirin is not happy and doesn’t think they should be sitting around doing nothing. Instead, he splits everyone up to go in search of the perfect hotel he believes is just around the corner.
Kirin leads half the group away from the beach while the rest of the group stays together and cross over to the other side. One of the boys, DJ, slows them down so he decides to give up, wishing them luck. ..
With the recon mission a failure on both sides of the island, the boys reconvene later on and find the mutilated body of DJ. He’s been completely torn apart, with his face ripped off. The boys have no idea what happened to him.
On this day, 1 year ago, the girls reflect on time after Nora. They are up to day 30 and have been struggling. Shelby admits she hasn’t been doing a lot of praying right now while Rachel is in danger of flying completely off the handle. She clings to Toni though, who’s her rock through all of this. The pair continue kissing.
While Dot and Fatin set up a large SOS sign on the beach again, each of the girls continue to deal with their own drama and also remain worried about Rachel, given what happened to Nora. ..
Leah and Rachel sit with each other and tell each other about their thoughts on Nora. However, Leah is not content with the way that Nora found out about the island and retreat. She wants to know more about what happened, specifically how her sister found out. Rachel is a woman possessed by her sister’s death, telling Leah that she is to blame for what happened.
Dot stays with Rachel, admitting to her that she’s going to feel awful for a while. Dot doesn’t BS her friend and points out that grief is awful to try and get through. For now, she’s going to stay with her.
Raf returns to the group and befriends Seth. The latter constantly checks in on him, as the pair admit they’re not doing well. For Raf, he’s still not much better in the present either, as he tells Young and Faber in his interview that he’s still struggling to this day. ..
Raf admits that some of the boys are turning into monsters, and it’s a classic Lord of the Flies scenario. Anyway, when Raf heads back to his room, Leah pops up behind him and tells him not to scream. ..
DJ is back and he’s not happy about it. He’s concerned for the safety of the kids and wants to make things right. Gretchen doesn’t seem to care though, she’s just happy to have her son back. DJ has to find a way to get through to her and make her see that what she did was wrong.
The Episode Review
The Wilds is back and more confusing than ever. Not just narratively, but also with its editing. The title of this episode is evidence enough that we’re going to be jumping to different time periods between the two sets of characters but in doing so, it’s stretching everyone incredibly thin. ..
So far, all the boys we’ve met are walking clichés, and the jumps between day 1, the present, and day 30 are in danger of becoming really muddy and less cohesive than in the first season. ..
So, I thought I’d give it another go and see if I could make a case for why this show is worth watching. I watched the first episode and it didn’t really hold my attention. However, the second episode was much better. The story was interesting but the execution wasn’t as good as it could have been. I think that this show has potential to be great and I would recommend giving it a try.
Season 2 of “The Office” feels like it’s stumbling out of the corner with very little to offer. In fact, the arrival of the boys has a detrimental effect on the rest of the show, as one can’t help but want to spend more time with the girls instead.
The first few episodes of this season were strong, but the show has since lost its way. The main issue is that the show seems to be losing sight of what made it so popular in the first place. Hopefully, the rest of the season can improve and bring back some of the excitement that was once felt.
