Bronson’s gang is known for extracting a holy cross from an underground sacred place to sell it in the market. When the lawmen show up, they decide to take the longer path from the desert.
Bill and Mr. Anderson are out on a search for the horses when one of the gang members accidentally lets them loose. The horses run off into the desert, and Bill and Mr. Anderson are left stranded. They have to find their way back home, and they do so by hiring Mr. Anderson as a bounty hunter. This difficult task becomes even more difficult when one of the gang members mistakenly lets them loose.
Anderson and Bill travel to a remote location in order to find the bounty on the mother’s killer. They are joined by a man named Bronson, who is angry at the world for leaving him behind. The men eventually come across a group of bandits, who have been terrorizing the area. The men take care of the bandits, and Anderson and Bill finally have their chance to talk. They learn that Bronson killed the man responsible for getting them here, and he now wants to find out what happened to the bounty. They also agree to look for Bill’s mother’s killer together.
Meanwhile, Bronson’s party of men is reduced to just two: him and McCoy. The two have a fight after Bronson shoots the last member. In the tussle, McCoy shoots Bronson in the stomach but is knocked out by him. Anderson’s time at the house is over. He bids adieu and takes off but not before being stopped by Bill, who requests to tag along. Anderson reminds him that he is making the biggest mistake of his life but Bill’s resolve is strong to find his mother’s killer. He leaves behind Isabelle and Tara. ..
Bronson is seen carrying McCoy on his back with the cross strapped to his chest. The incredible feat sees him cover the distance on foot through the desert and they finally reach a water well, where Bronson dozes off. When he wakes up, McCoy is missing, and so is the cross. Bronson angrily shouts for him as the screen fades to black. ..
The episode provides a lot of backstory for the characters and it is very helpful in understanding their motivations. The story together with the flashbacks are some of the most exciting developments of the episode.
The explosive synergy between the two actors in this episode is a sign of things to come. The ending leaves viewers with hope for a final showdown between the two near the end of the season. The beautiful scenery is captured in its raw state without too much experimentation, continuing the tradition of excellence that has been seen in every episode so far. ..
That Dirty Black Bag is a dark and violent show that promotes faith and savagery as its main themes. The clash of ideologies provides ample opportunity for creators to carve out an immensely compelling abstract for the show. Forces beyond the material world are always fascinating to watch and one might just be unravelling here. Fingers crossed for the upcoming episodes!
