Episode 7 of Undone Season 2 starts with Jacob, Alma and Becca all being greeted by a young Geraldine on the other side of Alma’s door. “You found me.” She says. It turns out Geraldine left her younger self behind the door; the painful memories of her regretful childhood. Geraldine is a young girl who has been stuck in a time loop where she repeatedly experiences painful memories from her past. When Jacob, Alma and Becca find her, she welcomes them with open arms and tells them that she’s been waiting for them. ..
Geraldine’s mother tells the soldier that he will be killed in battle and she can see it in his eyes. She also predicts that he will be rich and famous. The soldier is skeptical, but decides to take her advice.
Geraldine’s mother is working on a project with her son Jacob. They are told that the project is focused on bowls of water, and that Geraldine is specifically being trained to do the same thing.
Geraldine notices something in the water and is afraid to tell her parents. They get angry and tip the bowl over, causing Geraldine to lose her memory of what she saw. She believes that whatever it was, it’s connected to the fog they’ve been seeing. ..
Geraldine has been piecing together a new collage, and she’s found a fragment of fabric that seems to represent her childhood trauma. ..
This collage manifests itself into a strangely beautiful structure, with no rhyme or reason. Stairs lead to nowhere, rooms are crooked edges of Geraldine’s subconscious, and young Geraldine is afraid. She doesn’t want to go near it, believing the other versions of Geraldine will shun her.
Geraldine was suddenly changed by what happened in the past.
The group visit a woman who tells them about her wedding day. Geraldine is rejected by every version of Geraldine that the group visit, but one memory sees Jacob take a baseball and smash it through the TV; a moment to protect his own mother after she lashes out at the ghostly apparition of Jacob and the girls.
Jacob has a plan and somehow manages to transport inside young Jacob’s memories. He convinces his mother to open up, at least a little. She talks about her trip to America. This opens up a picture of Geraldine wearing her mother’s red coat in the hallway we saw before. When young Geraldine touches it, we head back to see what she saw in the reflecting pool.
Geraldine watches as an officer from before curses and holds onto her mother. They eventually take her away. Geraldine watches all of this, cowering inside a wooden shed, as her parents are taken away.
Geraldine’s story begins with a moment of clarity that changed everything. She looked in the reflecting pool and saw her parents die. Geraldine was left behind in a ship, which caught up to the timeline. The origins of all this bad luck and drama seem to stem from that moment. Geraldine didn’t tell her parents what she saw, and that may have been the catalyst for their deaths.
Jacob realizes the importance of all this and tries to change this memory. Parts of the collage start to shift and break as Jacob throws himself into this . It’s no good though and it just does not work.
Alma convinces another Geraldine to come along and help talk young Geraldine into accepting that this is part of their history. This seems to do the trick and it changes things for everyone, as all the other Geraldines from the different timelines come forth and forgive the young child for bearing this burden all these years.
As everyone piles in for a big hug, the timeline changes. This embracing of one’s past allows for Geraldine to come forth and embrace her true name – Ruchel.
Alejandro and the family adopt Alejandro and grow up together as a big happy family until Ruchel passes away. They light a candle to honour her memory.
The Episode Review
Geraldine has been a central figure in our story so far, and this episode provides her backstory in a way that is both heartbreaking and satisfying. We see her childhood, her relationship with her father, and the events that led to her current situation. It’s a well-done exploration of a complex character and one that is sure to leave an impression on viewers.
It has been revealed that the woman who was once thought to be a villain in the family is now the one who has finally managed to turn things around. This has finally undone all of the wrongs that have been going on up until this point.
In the last episode of the show, we saw a potential complication that could arise from what the characters have done. If everything goes according to plan, then there may be some unforeseen consequences that are worth exploring.
This was a great chapter and it sets everything up beautifully for the finale to follow.
