The Unknown

In Outer Range Episode 7, Royal speaks to Perry at the Roller Disco about his anger. He has been in a fight and hit the Tillerson boys, so Perry is confused about the anger he’s feeling. ..

Prince Royal tells his son that it’s not just him - there are other secrets being kept here, but they’ll be revealed soon. Don’t worry! ..

In the present, Joy takes Perry in for questioning, where he remains adamant that Rebecca may not actually be dead. His cryptic chatter isn’t enough to get him out from behind bars though, as the Abbott family find themselves on the cusp of being torn apart.

The bail has been set for $500,000, and with Perry’s court date set, the Abbott’s are under strict instructions to make sure their son shows up on the day in question. If not, then the ranch will be forfeited completely.

Amy sees Perry coming home and heads up to greet him. She’s scribbling in her journal with the same insignia we’ve been seeing in Autumn’s journal and also on the cliffside.

Amy and her father discuss the possibility that Rebecca may have gone missing. Perry swears he doesn’t know what happened to her, but when Royal mentions the same thing to Perry, he doesn’t believe him.

Rhett updates Autumn on what’s happening about Perry. When she leaves, she runs into Billy, who admits he’s had a vision of her and how she’s the leader over all of Mother Earth. Billy has decided he’s going to follow her no matter what.

As the two kiss, Billy pledges himself to Autumn, which sees her carve that familiar insignia on his chest. She also tasks him with stopping Royal no matter what. ..

Billy eventually finds Royal by the side of the road, having car troubles. Royal tells Billy that he’s been following Autumn and that something bad is going to happen to her. Billy drives Royal to the abandoned roller disco – the same one we saw at the start of the episode – and holds him up at gunpoint. After throwing some big threats at the ranch owner, Royal promises not to go near Autumn. Just before Billy leaves, he says “I think something bad”s going to happen to your granddaughter. ..

In Billy’s absence, Luke starts choking out their father in his bedroom with a pillow. Billy heads back just in time to stop him, asking the same question every single viewer has had too “Why do you sing, boy?”

Perry and Royal ride out to the hole together. Autumn is the one who told him about it, while Royal admits that his knowledge of his area goes back further than we thought. Specifically, during his time as a boy.

As a result of this experience, Royal became an expert at hiding and escaping. He would often use this skill to escape from situations in which he felt uncomfortable or threatened.

In 1968, Wayne was involved in a vision that involved a black boy. The boy is said to be from the land, and it seems that Royal was actually responsible for him. It is possible that the Abbott family took him in as one of their own.

Perry has decided to jump into the hole, which sets off a chain of events that leads to his death.

The Episode Review

We finally understand what this hole is, and it seems to be some sort of time portal. It’s still not clear exactly how everything fits together, but the hole looks like it’s manifesting different years.

Royal has been causing problems for the ranch for a while now, and it seems like he might be the one who’s going to cause the biggest issue in the future. It’s possible that he’s been behind the recent jump into the hole, and that’s why Perry is so interested in getting it back. It would make sense that Autumn would come back to check things out, and if she finds out that Royal is behind it all, she may be able to stop him before he does any more damage.

Billy’s questioning of his brother during the performance is a clever way of engaging with the audience, while the show itself continues to provide glimpses of surreal comedy and eerie music in between its character-driven drama. ..

This episode provides a dramatic finale for what may come next. Everything is left open for where this may go. ..
