Mason’s Rats

Mason and the team set out to find out what is causing this change and soon realize that Traptech is to blame. The company seems to be making some sort of weapon that will destroy all the rats, but Mason has a different idea. He suggests using the weapon on Traptech themselves, in order to take them down for good. The team decides to go ahead with this plan and soon finds themselves in battle against Traptech.

The farmer brought in the big guns after thwarting the initial threat from the rata. The rats were all completely slaughtered, with the rat forces determined to try and stop the machines. ..

Mason hears the commotion and heads to the barn to take a look. There, he notices the rats all hanging on for dear life. With his shotgun in hand, he takes matters into his own hands after commenting how this bloodbath looks like World War IV. He saves the last of the rat forces, destroys the machine and decides to form a peaceful coalition with the rats after all. Oh, and he cancels his cheque with the bank too!

The Episode Review

The episode is a clever allegory for war and how bloody awful it can be regardless of which side of the conflict you lie on. The whole idea of war going on without actually looking, kept behind closed doors, is such a clever way of interpreting conflicts across the world.

Mason’s gruesome and disturbing vision of rats being slaughtered is a powerful reminder of the human cost of drone warfare and the use of advanced technology in war. ..

The turn-around at the end of this book is a nice way of closing the chapter on a positive note. The two sides eventually reconciled their differences and realized that war is hell and not worth the price paid to see things through to the end.
