Driving Lessons
Irene is in the police station, unhappy with Jude for running off. He pleads with her to help but the only way out of this predicament is if Irene knows what’s going on. She wants to know the truth.
Jude claims that the aliens have control over everything. He was kept away from the rest of the world in an isolated compound to protect the secret, and he believes that this is why the planet is a wasteland. The aliens have created this place as a wasteland in order to keep people from discovering what they are really like.
Jude tells the story of how one of the men who tried to stop him from escaping from prison was one of the attackers who killed him. Jude’s goal is to find Gabriel, who also head through the same doorway, allegedly.
Irene sweet talks the officers to let Jude go. Irene downplays the importance of her door but according to Jude, this is all part of destiny and is one of the most important doorways out there.
So what is the big deal? Well, according to Toni and Stella, these particles are what create everything. They are the building blocks of the universe. Nick is not so sure, but he’s open to the idea. According to two scientists at a recent conference, everything in existence is made up of tiny particles that are invisibly linked over vast distances. One scientist believes this is evidence of God’s handiwork, while the other remains skeptical. ..
Nick manages to get a ping on the transmission tower that the package is located at. However, when a utility worker shows up in his van, Stella blindsides him and cable ties him to the steering wheel to keep him from interfering. ..
Nick and Toni return to the car and are stunned when they get their next destination. They’re going to Illinois, the same Illinois if you remember, that Irene and Franklin happen to be living at.
Franklin heads over to see Byron with a disposable camera. He urges him to get the photos developed, pointing out they’ll confirm proof of the alien landscape. While this scene plays out, Irene heads over to Chandra’s place to retrieve what she initially took from her last visit. ..
Jude retrieves a black necklace with a strange object inside it from Irene. He also finds a necklace that holds the same object in his leg.
Jude breaks his cover and heads straight downstairs to confront Chandra. She claims it was a “gift” from those in the care home, her way of getting something in return for caring for all these people. Irene promises to keep everything a secret in exchange for knowing where she got the necklace from. Now, this cylindrical trinket is actually a tracker, which explains why Jude took it out his leg and destroyed it several episodes back. With this explained, Chandra also reveals whom she obtained it from.
Byron begins to research the possible connection between the alien world and the door he saw in a photo. He comes across a conspiracy theory called “The Impossible Door” that suggests this could be the doorway to an alien world. Byron investigates further and comes up with evidence that this theory is true.
Franklin notices bloody fingerprints by the side of the doorway. As Byron shines a flashlight on the area, he realizes this is the control panel – the same control panel that we saw Stella’s doorway hold. Anyway, when they open it up, the orb is obviously missing. It’s in the jar that Jude buried earlier in the season.
Franklin’s nosy neighbour heads out to the woods to check out what’s in Byron’s jar and finds an orb inside.
The Episode Review
The latest episode of Night Sky, “Signals,” continued the story of Stella and Toni, two characters who have been on the show for a little over a month now. The episode started with Stella and Toni being chased by some men in a car. They eventually escape and head to a cabin in the woods. There they find a signal that leads them to another cabin. This second cabin is where they meet up with another group of people, including Toni’s father. The episode ended with Stella and Toni leaving the second cabin and getting into a car chase with the men who were chasing them earlier in the episode. ..
The main meat of the show lies with Jude and what he may be hiding. From the start of this episode though, we learn that Jude was held prisoner by some shadowy government forces, isolated and tracked to make sure he doesn’t tell anyone about the doorway. This is a welcome answer in a show that continues to drag its heels and play its card close to its chest. ..
This article discusses the mysterious disappearance of Franklin and Irene, two prominent scientists who used a portal to enter the other side of the galaxy. It also questions how this doorway is so special, and why it has been left uninvestigated for so long.
Despite all of the things that Night Sky does well, it’s not without its flaws. One of the things that makes it so appealing is the idea of a sci-fi movie with an “aura” - something that keeps you watching. We’ll have to wait and see what the next chapter has in store for us though.
