Dream a Little Dream of Me

Dream then meets Johanna Constantine, a woman who has been living in the shadows for years. She tells Dream that Morpheus is back and that he will take her to the top of the Tower of London. After getting into a taxi with Johanna, Dream is warned by an old woman called Hettie about Morpheus.

Johanna wakes up in a dark room, her head throbbing. She can hear the sound of people talking outside the window, but she’s too focused on the exorcism she has to face. Suddenly, a demon appears and starts to possess Kevin. Johanna tries to fight it off, but it’s too strong. The demon then turns on her and starts to destroy her body. However, Dream intervenes and tells the demon that he knows where its helm is. The demon then agrees to show Johanna where it is before leaving her for good.

Dream tries to convince Johanna to hand over the sand pouch, but it turns out she actually sold it a while back. Lucienne ignores Dream’s wishes and shows up with a raven called Matthew.

Johanna wakes up to find that she can approach Dream in his dreams, and the two discuss their fears. Johanna learns that Dream may be able to help her find Rachel Moodie, her old flame.

Johanna demands that Dream stay outside and heads in alone to confront her ex. His raven, Matthew, also warns her that humans aren’t trustworthy. ..

Eventually, Dream shows up and retrieves his sand. Rachel is lying on the bed, dying before their eyes. The sand was the only thing keeping her alive. Dream points out that Johanna is responsible for this; after all, if she’d kept hold of the sand then her ex-lover would be fine. She berates Dream into submission, where he lets her pass gently, using the sand to give her a good dream. ..

Ethel approaches her son, wearing the amulet that has kept her safe all this time. John refuses to hand it over though, pointing out that he’s altered it so it only works for him now. ..

Ethel removes her amulet, deciding John should have it, trying to bargain with him for the ruby. This amulet has kept Ethel alive for 116 years but she’s done now. After hugging her son goodbye, she withers and passes before his eyes.

John eventually leaves, only to be approached by the Corinthian outside. Meanwhile, Dream turns his attention to Hell, determined to get his Helm back.

The Episode Review

John Constantine is where some of the cracks in this production start to show. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still an enjoyable watch but I’m not quite sure why John was switched for Johanna.

The show “Constantine” is set to air on NBC this fall and will star Matt Ryan as John Constantine. The show is based off the comics of the same name and will follow Constantine as he teams up with Dream (played by Rachael Taylor) to fight evil. avid comic readers will note that Johanna (played by Lucy Griffiths) appears in a different story in a different time period, so it’ll be interesting to see how the show handles that. ..

The episode feels like it’s missing a lot of the excitement and tension that it could have had. The subplots are unimportant and don’t add anything to the story.

With the attention now turning to Hell, it’ll be interesting to see exactly whether this story sticks to the source material and if there are any other changes coming our way.
