But what makes a good teen drama? It’s not just the plot, or the characters. It’s the atmosphere, the feel-good factor. The way that the story is written and the way that it’s delivered. And that’s what we’re looking for in our next selection.
Summertime in Croatia is a time of change. The country has been through a lot of turmoil in the past few years, and the mood is tense. There’s a feeling that something big is about to happen, but no one knows what it is. The sun may be shining, but the clouds are gathering.
This year’s story is very familiar and doesn’t offer much in the way of surprises, twists or turns. Netflix and the team did a great job wrapping up this season, but I feel like a feature film would have been more fitting for this. Instead, we get another 8 episodes of formulaic and overdone drama.
The first episode of “Breaking Bad” opens with a big party and a dramatic fight. An intoxicating mix of dancing and drinking adds up to a good 3 and a half minutes before we jump into the story itself.
The show’s first season largely revolves around the various character romances and relationship woes that come with being a high school student. Additionally, the show introduces overlong establishing shots, lots of musical montages, and welcome (but ultimately distracting) shots of the landscape. ..
Ale is a delivery driver who believes that he’s wasting his life by performing. Dario is an artist who set things off with a big fight over their respective directions in life. Ale turns to performance to make ends meet.

Ale’s main drama in Summer is making amends with Lola, especially after her big accident at the end of season 2. Most of the summer’s drama centers on love interest Luca, while Dario and Rita face the usual smattering of problems in their relationship. There’s also Sofi, Edo and Blue who have their drama to help pad out the chapters.
The main conflict in this season is between Summer and Sofia, who have a falling out in season 2. This creates a lot of tension and drama, but there are no surprises or unexpected developments. Everything here has been done before, and better elsewhere.
Summertime isn’t really improving since its first season, but that doesn’t mean that fans of the show won’t enjoy it. What you see is what you get with this one.
Summertime in the small town of Summerville is a time to relax and enjoy the simple things in life. The locals like to dip into their summertime routine without having to think too much about it, and that includes enjoying the sun and the peace that comes with it. For those who are looking for a holiday destination, Summerville is unlikely to be on their list.
