Episode Guide
Alan’s routine is one of the most difficult things he has to do each day. He wakes up early, does his exercises, and then spends the rest of the morning preparing for his escape. He spends hours planning every detail of his escape, from where he will go to what he will wear. The escape is always a challenge, but it is also one of the most rewarding things that Alan can do. ..
Russian Doll is an engaging and highly enjoyable show with well written characters and a strong mystical theme tying everything together. The finale packs one heck of a shocker with a couple of big shockers and one final thought-provoking twist at the end. ..
Nadia is a party girl who keeps experiencing the same night over and over again after dying on her birthday. She’s not sure what’s going on, but she’s always able to relive the same day again no matter what. Nadia starts to think that this might be a sign from God that she needs to start living more intentionally and purposefully spend her days outside.
Nadia has been living the same night over and over again for weeks, and as time goes on, she starts to piece together what’s happening. With each death, more secrets come out. There are rotting vegetables and things disappearing, as well as some pretty dark events from Nadia’s past coming back to haunt her. The longer the show goes on, the more important it becomes for her to figure out what’s going on. ..
The show starts off well, with a clever plot twist midway through that changes the entire dynamic. As more secrets and clues are slowly revealed, the finale builds toward a climactic ending where one final twist keeps the surprises going right up to the end. While some may not like the open ending, personally I think this ending perfectly encapsulates the themes and mystery surrounding the show. ..
The show begins as an outright comedy, with Nadia trying to figure out how to get her family out of the city and into the country. She has a lot of fun trying to do this, but eventually realizes that it’s not going to work. Her family is too spread out and they can’t all get away. Nadia then decides to do something that she never thought she would do: she will repeat the same day on her birthday. This seems like a silly idea at first, but it becomes more and more important as Nadia realizes that she can’t escape her fate. The show gradually starts to explore the concept of death, karma, parallel universes and other such topics in a much more profound way than it did in the beginning.
Russian Doll is a show that is well worth watching. The writing is solid, the acting on point and the various little twists along the way are clever enough to keep you guessing right through to the end. If there’s one show you watch this weekend, make sure it’s Russian Doll.
