Not for the faint-hearted
Madison is a game that can be genuinely scary, so if you’re a horror fan it’s well worth a look. However, if you’re someone who avoids games with lots of puzzle-solving, Madison might not be the best title for you. This game will give your brain a proper workout, so if you’re somebody who likes challenging games this might be the one for you. ..
This is a game that I would avoid if I or anyone close to me had ever had mental health problems. The conclusion of this game is both upsetting and triggering. I’m not going to give away any spoilers here, but if you are among the number of people that I am referring to, it might be wise to research the game’s end before playing.
You start the game with a choice to make. You can either run away or stay and face whatever is coming for you. The choice is yours and it’s one that you’ll have to make quickly as the game progresses. Once you choose, the rest of the game is up to you. The game starts out with a few basic puzzles that will help set the tone for what’s to come. One of these puzzles involves finding a key hidden in some blood on the floor. Once you find it, open the door and head into your grandpa’s room where you will find him holding a gun to your head. He tells you that he knows what happened and that it was all your fault for not being more careful. The rest of the game is filled with horror elements as Luca struggles to survive in this dark place. There are moments when things seem too much for him and he needs help but he never feels safe until he finally makes it out alive. Bloodious Games has done an excellent job in creating an intense and suspenseful experience that will keep players on their toes from beginning to end.
As you explore the house, you come across dark secrets and clues that link to Luca’s family history. You must use your detective skills to find out what happened to his parents, and why they were taken away in a car crash. The game has an ominous feeling, and it’s clear that something is following you.
In order to complete the game, you must use your camera to solve riddles and take pictures of certain walls in order to find clues that otherwise remain hidden.
The puzzle in the attic room is a mathematical puzzle that must be solved to unlock the door. The portraits in the room are not necessarily matched up with the outlines on the walls, which is why it took me so long to figure out how to solve it.
There are several other puzzles in this house that might be confusing if you’re not sure how to progress. Thankfully, they aren’t abstract in nature and you will get through them if you use a bit of logic. However, some of these puzzles may require certain items to be placed in your inventory before progressing.
As you move through your house, be aware of the sounds that are being made and be prepared to react quickly if something feels off. Be sure to use a headset if you want to improve your experience, as some of the sounds may make you jump out of your skin. Playing the game with headphones will help you feel more immersed in the game and will also make it less likely that you will jump out of your skin.
The game’s visuals add to the creepy vibe, with flickering candles giving light to shadowed rooms and detailed environments that contain photos of sinister-looking relatives and ritualistic objects that exude a sense of menace. You aren’t only confined to your grandpa’s house so there is more to explore than his old-fashioned abode. The time-jumping puzzle I mentioned earlier takes place in an eerie old church, and there is a moment in the game when you step through a basement door and find yourself transported to a crime scene. ..
Madison is a horror game that provides plenty of chills, making it largely successful. However, there are a few things that can make it frustrating. The inventory system is particularly frustrating as you can only carry a small number of things at a time, and the same could be said about the Resident Evil games.
The location of some items in the house can be frustrating. For example, if you need to open a door or solve a riddle, you may find yourself on the verge of giving up if you don’t find the item first.
If you’re looking for a spooky game to play, look no further than Haunting of Hill House. This title has everything you need to make your Halloween night a success - from the jump scares to the creepy crawlies. If you’re not scared by jump scares, then this game might not be for you, but if you’re looking for something that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then Haunting of Hill House is definitely worth checking out.
The game is short, so it won’t take you long to complete it. Well, that’s assuming you don’t spend ages backtracking to find lost items or wondering how to complete one of the game’s fiendish puzzles! I finished the game within around 7 hours and as far as I know, I saw everything there was to see during the run-time. ..
This is still a game worth playing, even if you’re one of the people I mentioned at the beginning that might find thistriggering. The game’s ending is quite traumatic so if you’re in a fragile mental state before playing this title, I advise you to approach it with caution. For everybody else, the conclusion will definitely disturb you, making for an intense horror experience.
