West Sky 1
Jun-Woong is there to stop the rumours of Ryung-Gu and Ryeon spreading across to the new recruits in hell. He shouts and forces them to stop running their mouths.
Ryung-Gu has killed 4 people in the past, and the rumours surrounding his death are true.
Ryung-Gu returns that night, and apologizes for getting his personal feelings involved. He decides to leave after apologizing.
Jun-Woong tries to stop Ryeon on the way out, but to no avail. It turns out Ryeon was actually the one who escorted both Ryung-Gu and his mother to the Afterlife. He escorted the former because he murdered someone.
After Ryung-Gu’s mother gave him encouraging words regarding the meaning of his name, he tried to get Minister Kim’s son to help him read and write. Unfortunately, he was beaten down for his insolence.
Yu-Hwa, Ryung-GU’s mother, decided to teach her son how to read and write. ..
Given that he’s incredibly smart and has a thirst for knowledge, she does her best to satiate that through her teachings. The trouble is, there are issues involving the governor, who happens to be looking for Ryung-Gu’s mother.
A group of thugs show up to a woman’s home and call her a prostitute. The situation quickly escalates, and the woman agrees to go with them to the governor in order to protect her son. ..
Geum-Hong, a former kisaeng, is brought before the governor late at night for an audience. The governor, who is angry with her old status as a courtesan, wants to adopt Ryung-Gu as his son. This would make Geum-Hong his mistress. ..
It would be a horrible fate for her but on the flip side, her son could have an untold amount of opportunities to make it as an official.
Yu-Hwa makes the decision to reject the Governor and leave for her previous life in a hurry. Unfortunately, rumors of her being a prostitute spread throughout town.
That night, after Ryung-Gu beats down a couple of boys for badmouthing his mother, he returns home to find the gang leaving his mother’s place. Unfortunately, Ryung-Gu berates his mother from behind the door, telling her it’s shameful and humiliating to be lowborn. He wanted to be an official. Unfortunately, she ends up committing suicide that night.
Ryung-Gu returns to the neighbourhood and finds out that his neighbour, Yu-Hwa, was gang raped by those men. Ryung-Gu is horrified and decides to take action. He goes to the governor and demands that they be punished for their actions.
Ryung-Gu killed the governor and his men in a fit of rage, understanding what had happened. He desired death, eagerly, and saw Ryeon appear to guide him to the afterlife.
Yu-Hwa Admits that she also took Ryeon to the afterlife but there was a time when she didn’t love her. She ignored her for days as a baby but eventually something gave way and she loved her unconditionally from there on out.
Ryung-Gu realizes that he will never be able to see his mother, given her special sin of suicide. So Ryung-Gu decides to apply and work as a reaper, under the guidance of Ryeon on the Reaper team. His goal here is to hopefully see his mother in a reincarnated form.
Ryung-Gu decides to become a team member of the RM Team in 2021 in order to save his mother from killing herself.
Ryung-Gu meets Yu-Hwa too and it’s a heartbreaking meeting. When he buys a whole load of clothes, Yu-Hwa is there to comment on his name – just like she did all those years ago in her previous life.
Ryung-Gu’s time comes to an end, and he and Jun-Woong head out for a final dinner. However, his mother passes by, pregnant and with her partner.
Ryung-Gu decides to go for a drink instead of going to the police station. Whilst drinking soju, Ryung-Gu reflects on how he killed his mother and was to blame for what happened to her. The burden is too much for him to bear and Ryung-Gu heads outside, struggling to hold back tears.
As the episode ends, we cut back to the RM Team and see Yu-Hwa flashing on her mobile. She’s close to committing suicide.
The Episode Review
Ryung-Gu returns for another good episode in tomorrow’s show. This time, we’ll get to know what’s been going on with him specifically. ..
In the aftermath of the sexual assault, it makes more sense to see how he reacted and cried. It was clear that he was deeply hurt by what happened and wanted to distance himself from the situation. Additionally, his reaction to the sexual assault made a lot more sense. He was angry and upset, which made sense given how he felt about what happened.
Tomorrow has been a great show so far, but the individual chapters have easily been the best part. This time around, learning more about Ryung-Gu’s past has been a really welcome part of this show and it makes for one of the best episodes of the series.
The ending of the episode hints that we may be getting a follow-up story too. Ryung-Gu seems like he may be the one who has the potential to talk his mother out of suicide.
Tomorrow brings another good chapter to the story.
