On The Run

Kenari is a young girl who was working at the club when Cassian showed up. She’s not sure what happened to her after that, but she’s pretty sure she didn’t see Cassian.

Cassian is pursued by the guards, who try to shoot him. He manages to outrun them and steal their gun, which he uses to kill one of the guards. He then escapes back to his ship, alone but not without a fight.

We then cut across to Ferrix, a free trade sector located in the Morlani System. A lowly red droid called B2EMO heads out to scrapyard and back to base. Anyone else getting serious Wall-E vibes here? Anyway, this droid belongs to Cassian, who is sleeping and hiding out. He knows the wrath of the Empire is going to come down hard and he’s desperate to make sure his cover-story is in order. Part of that comes from visiting his old friend Brasso, who agrees to have his back. ..

Meanwhile, news of the squad commander’s death reaches Deputy Inspector Syril Karn and Chief Hyne, who learns there are no suspects. Hyne decides to chalk it off as a “misadventure.” He asks his subordinate to make up a suitable excuse for their deaths, making sure it is outside the Leisure Zone. They were killed in a fight at a brothel while on the job, which is a sackable offence. They died “being helpful”, Chief Hynes signs off. “Something sad but inspiring. Given there is a review of crime rates coming up, this is swept under the rug. ..

Syril Karn, a Ferrixian security officer, is concerned about a Kenari male who has recently entered the system. He decides to search through the records to see if he can find any information about him. As a result, he receives a bulletin asking for information from anyone who may be aware of the Kenari male.

Cassian next shows up to see a mechanic called Bix, desperate to offload some valuable gear. Specifically an untraceable NS-9 Starpath unit. He needs the credits so he can get out and lay low for a while. Bix is concerned, given how much this is worth, but agrees to organize a meet with her contact. The thing is, Cassian owes a lot of money, including to Nurchi who brings in his muscle, Vetch. Cassian talks his way out of trouble and continues to prep for leaving the system.

The ship crashes into a remote part of Kenari, where the natives live. They scavenge what they can, and also use black paint to symbolically mark themselves and their arms. The team geared up and headed out into the forest.

The Episode Review

However, there are a few things that need to be addressed before the show can really take off. The first is the story. Andor is set in a world that is very different from our own and it feels like the writers could do more to flesh out the characters and their relationships. Secondly, the acting needs to be better. The characters are all very good but they don’t quite seem to gel together as well as they could. Finally, there are some plot holes that need to be filled in for sure before this show can really take off.

The first episode of “Star Wars: Rebels” set the stage for a lot of action and drama to come. Three separate areas are being followed: Cassian’s relationship with Kenari, the Empire’s exploits, and the Deputy Inspector. He looks to be the main antagonist. ..

It’s still too early to say whether this new project in the Star Wars universe is more promising than the others.
