In the fifth episode of Season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale, we follow the story of Offred, a handmaid who is forced to serve in the government’s reproductive program. She is kept in a dark and dreary cell with other women, and she is constantly being interrogated by her captors. Despite her situation, Offred does manage to find some solace in her relationships with her fellow handmaids. She becomes close with one of them, named Gertrude, and she helps to keep the other women safe. In the end, though, Offred is forced to leave Gertrude behind when her captors are killed. Overall, this episode was very sad and frustrating. It showed how difficult it is for handmaids to survive in a society that doesn’t understand them. However, it also showed how much strength and resilience these women have.
