Henry has a problem. Since he was 7 years old, he’s been randomly pulled out of his own timeline and transported to a different time and place. It’s this quirk that leads him to meet Clare essentially out of order. Romance and marriage follow suit, but become infinitely complicated by Henry’s tendency to disappear.

In the first episode of Season 1 of The Time Traveler’s Wife, Carrie and John are on a road trip to visit their families. Carrie is pregnant, and John is eager to see his family again. However, things start to go wrong as they get closer to their destination. First, Carrie starts having nightmares about her past life as a married woman in the future. She wakes up in a cold sweat, screaming for help. Then, John starts having similar dreams about his past life as a husband in the future. He can’t shake the feeling that he’s being watched or followed. The two men eventually find out that they’re both dreaming because they’re experiencing time travel through their wives’ memories. In each of their lives, they’ve been married to women who have died before them. As they try to figure out how to fix things so that their wives don’t die in the future, they realize that there’s only one way to do it: by going back in time and changing what happened between them during those marriages so that their wives don’t die! This is an interesting concept for an episode of The Time Traveler’s Wife, but it didn’t quite work for me. I found it difficult to believe that these two men could actually change history without causing any harm to either of their wives or themselves. Additionally, I found it hard to follow the story line because it was too convoluted for my liking.
