Michaella’s story is told in five episodes, each exploring a different part of her life. In the first episode, Michaella tells her own story from the beginning, detailing her partygoing demeanour and carefree attitude. In the second episode, Michaella describes what happened after she was arrested and during her detention. The third episode looks at Michaella’s decision to smuggle drugs out of South America and how it went wrong. The fourth episode tells the story of Michaella’s return to Lima and how she met her new friends. The fifth and final episode looks at Michaella’s aftermath, including her thoughts on what happened and how it has affected her life.

Michaella admits that she went to Ibiza to escape her life in Ireland and didn’t want to go home. Why? What’s she running from? What’s in Ireland that’s so bad?

There are a few niggling issues throughout the series that could have been explored more fully. For example, Michaella’s family life could have been explored in more detail and her real reasons for partying and losing control in Ibiza could have been heard from Melissa, the woman she was arrested alongside. ..

Michaella’s story is a cautionary tale against naivety and the allure of money. While some may think money can buy happiness, achieving it in the wrong way can also buy you a one way ticket to prison.
