The show starts off strong with a great premise, but quickly falls apart. The tonal conflict between the different characters is confusing and frustrating to follow. The show could use some more focus and cohesion, making it more interesting to watch.

The show dabbles in a variety of mother/child relations, playground politics, murder mystery melodrama and soap opera scandals. Unfortunately, none of these mesh together very effectively, producing a lukewarm drama that could have been so much better. ..

Eun-Pyo is a woman who moves to a brand new neighbourhood with her husband Jae-Ung, who happens to be a pretty good detective. They also have two sons, Dong-Seok and Dong-Ju. Unfortunately Dong-Seok is a little slow and disinterested at school, leading Eun-Pyo to be shunned by the other mothers.

Chun-Hui is a woman with a troubled past. Her husband is a gambling addict, her daughter Yu-Bin is a compulsive liar, and she still has feelings for her ex-boyfriend Man-Su. ..

Now, Man-Su is married to Yun-Ju, who is close to Eun-Pyo. This connects all of these together. ..

Eun-Pyo is shocked when she learns that her old friend from college, Jin-Ha, is the Queen Bee of the group. She has a history with her husband Luis too, which is slowly revealed over time.

The show has potential but the execution is questionable, making it difficult to invest in the characters and enjoy the story. There’s a strange atmosphere around this drama, with some episodes feeling like they’re just going through the motions without much development and others going all out for dramatic effect. The show also goes full-on melodrama at times, smashing through twists and plot developments without any sense of moderation. This makes it difficult to take it seriously as a television series, making it something that feels more like a gimmick than something that could actually be good.

The Green Mothers Club is a slow-moving series that makes the point that people in the neighbourhood are generally indifferent to the death of a member.

Green Mothers Club is a show with an ensemble cast, but unfortunately, the characters are not very likable. Eun-Pyo in particular is unlikable and it’s difficult to watch because of this. Chun-Hui’s motivations are soon revealed and make sense, but the first half makes for a difficult watch. ..

Likewise, everyone from Yun-Ju to Jin-Ha have their flaws that make them difficult to like. I understand this is done in order to give a more accurate portrayal of these flawed personas, but with few likable characters to root for, Green Mothers Club doesn’t do itself any favors. ..

The soundtrack is forgettable and doesn’t fit well with the show’s values. ..

The acting is excellent in this film, with some memorable moments. The majority of the credit goes to the cast, who do an excellent job with the material they’ve been given.

Yu-bin is probably one of the better child actors in this role, while Chun-hui’s conflicted persona makes for a really endearing watch.

The acting is good, but the story is not. The show feels like it’s trying to tell two different stories at once, and it can’t decide which one to focus on.

The series finale left much to be desired, with a decent resolution but little else to make it feel like a satisfying finale.
