The Sins We Did Not Find Out About

Episode 11 of Green Mothers Club begins with Eun-Pyo and her family heading to the counselling centre to get Dong-Seok checked out. Dong-Seok, a high school student in the top 1% of intelligence, is suffering from selective mutism as a result of his PTSD. His emotional intelligence is not as high as his peers, which is causing his PTSD to manifest itself in selective mutism. ..

Dong-Seok’s gift has both positive and negative aspects. On the one hand, Dong-Seok may not be able to find common interests among kids his own age, which may lead to frustration. However, as Eun-pyo begins to suffer from bad nightmares, she may start to feel like her shop is on fire in her dreams.

Dong-Seok’s dream may symbolize his transformation from a young boy to an adult. The dream may represent Dong-Seok’s anger and rage at his father, which he may be trying to express through the fire. Alternatively, the dream could represent Eun-Pyo’s return to the family after being away for many years. The dream could also be interpreted as a sign of rebirth, as Dong-Seok is rising from the ashes and becoming anew.

Eun-Pyo, a student at an academy for aspiring journalists, is determined to find out why her classmate Dong-Seok has been acting strangely. She begins to question the academy’s methods and eventually gets kicked out. ..

Yu-bin’s friends are worried about her and want to stop her from lying, but they can’t help themselves. Some of it is due to her parents, who are very pushy.

Ju-Seok is convinced she is a pathological liar and goes out that night to begin gambling again. As we know, this is a problem he’s had for a while and it doesn’t look like he’s intending to kick it any time soon.

Chun-hui asks the group for recommendations on a good psychologist to help Yu-bin with her difficulties. Eun-Pyo is the only person who responds and offers some advice, telling her not to give up. ..

Eun-Pyo was curious as to why Dong-Seok’s light was on late at night, so she went to investigate. She found him studying in the study room. ..

When Eun-Pyo sees him, she shouts at the child and he runs off. Eun-Pyo follows, shouts at him again and demands to know when he finished his math book. Jae-Ung intervenes and tells his wife to stop shouting, pointing out that he’s scared enough as it is. ..

Eun-Pyo is convinced that the “academy has brainwashed him” into studying hard. When the therapist hears this, she gently encourages her to stop this line of thinking. In fact, she shows off that Dong-Seok is feeling her desperation at a deeper level. He’s scribbled down “Mom’s wish” when asked whether he enjoys studying.

We know for a fact that Eun-Pyo is the reason Dong-Seok is acting this way.

At the clinic, Chun-Hui learns that Yu-Bin’s lies appear to be a coping mechanism stemming from her anxiety. When things get too much for Yu-Bin, she lies as a way of working through her problems. Chun-hui encourages her daughter not to do this, given it could lead to bigger problems down the road. ..

Eun-Pyo returns home and apologizes to Dong-Seok for how she’s been acting. It also appears that another part of Dong-Seok’s sadness stems from Henry, whom he misses. If you remember, the two kids were actually quite close before the situation with Jin-Ha.

Yun-Ju overhears the women gossiping during football practice about Eun-Pyo and immediately goes to confront them. After cursing them out, one of the women grabs Yun-Ju’s hair. Unfortunately, it ends up with them in a big fight, right in front of all the kids. Su-In helps get her some bandages as she laughs the whole thing off. ..

Speaking of lying, Chun-Hui tells her contact that the drugs aren’t coming and from now on, she’s not going to run his drugs. When she hangs up, he’s left frustrated.

Luis, a business man, rings Eun-pyo and asks if they should meet up to discuss the possibility of Henry playing with Dong-Seok. Eun-pyo is hesitant at first but decides to go along with it after she broaches the subject with Luis. Given that he’s headed off to France soon, Henry isn’t fond of joining him.

Earlier this season, we learned that Oh Geon-U, Young-Mi’s husband, threw a cup out the window into the park. ..

Young-Mi is crushed when she finds out and even more so when the kids admit that he abuses them when she’s not around, locking Jul-Pin in the bathroom. Young-Mi completely shrugs off her kids’ concerns and claims it’s just because he has a creative mind and feels sensitive.

Eun-Pyo heads over to Henry’s place with the kids. There, Eun-Pyo learns that Jin-Ha’s mother suffered from schizophrenia. Jin-Ha was always worried that she’d take after her mother the whole time she was alive. ..

Eun-Pyo accuses Jin-Ha of having a mental condition, which casts doubt on his ability to make sound decisions. ..

Eun-pyo seems to realize this too and on the way back home, pulls over by the side of the road to have a good cry. She also stops at the mausoleum to pay her respects too, apologizing for what happened between them and pointing out that she didn’t know. She also promises to be back to pay her respects at a later date.

Eun-pyo leaves the therapist’s office after completing her session and walks out of the room, dropping her scarf. Chun-Hui, who was in the room at the time, picks it up and looks at Eun-pyo. The episode ends with them facing each other ..

The Episode Review

The Green Mothers Club has been drifting through its episodes, unsure of what sort of show it wants to be.

We’ve been on a murder mystery spree lately, with episodes that leaned heavily into the genre. Then we had a bunch of episodes focused on family politics, and now it’s shifted to mother and son/daughter relationships and the pressures these kids are under. Through it all, the tone has jumped from melodrama, makjang, mystery and even romance. But this late in the game, this unsettled feel is never a great sign.

The academy’s negligence in Dong-Seok’s case is frustrating to see. Eun-Pyo herself seems to think the academy is responsible for what happened to her son, even though she was the one who pushed him into attending. ..

At the end of the episode, we revisit Jin-Ha and see that her disdain for Eun-Pyo has only grown since the last time we saw her. This makes her character look bad in comparison. ..

This week’s K-drama has been a bit of a mixed bag, with some good episodes and some bad ones. This episode, in particular, is one of the bad ones. It’s not bad, but it could have been better.
