My Liberation Notes is a family K-drama, following three siblings and a stranger as they seek to be freed from their complicated lives. The story follows the siblings as they try to find their way in a world that is constantly moving them and their parents. Along the way, they must figure out how to deal with the expectations of their families, as well as the expectations of themselves.
Mi-Jeong is a lonely young woman who lives in the quiet countryside and feels unfulfilled in her life. She spends her time exploring the city of Seoul, which is bustling with people and activity. ..
Her sister Gi-Jeong is the eldest and is very hot tempered. She spends a lot of her time travelling back and forth from Seoul to Sanpo village because of her job. She has a lot of issues in her life and is desperate to find love.
Chang-Hee (Lee Min-Ki) is the middle child who wants to leave his childhood home in Sanpo and has big dreams of becoming rich and living a fulfilled life.
Yeom Mi-Jeong approaches Mr Gu, a mysterious man who arrives in Sangpo with a dark past, with an idea to learn more about him. Mr Gu is hesitant at first, but Yeom Mi-Jeong persistence makes him agree to talk. He tells Yeom Mi-Jeong about his past and how he became a drinker. Yeom Mi-Jeong is surprised by this and asks Mr Gu if he has any other stories. Mr Gu tells her about a time when he was arrested and spent time in prison. He also tells her about a woman named Mrs Kim who helped him get free. Yeom Mi-Jeong is intrigued by this story and decides to ask Mr Gu more questions.
