Best Sellers Plot Synopsis
Harris Shaw is a lovable rogue who has always been one step ahead of the law. He’s a criminal mastermind who has outsmarted the police for years, and he’s not about to stop now. But when he meets new partner, Detective John Lennon, Harris realizes that maybe there’s more to life than being a bad guy. Together, they start to unravel the mysteries of this small town and the people who live there.
Harris is a recluse who has been living as a recluse in the years since his last book became a literary sensation. His solitary existence is shattered by Lucy Stanbridge (Aubrey Plaza), who needs his help in rescuing her publishing company from financial extinction. Unfortunately for her, Harris isn’t best pleased when she intrudes upon his life so the chances of her saving the company are slim.
Why does Lucy turn to Harris for help?
Lucy, the daughter of the publishing house’s former manager, has taken over the company after her father became ill. The company has been struggling since Lucy’s father left it in poor condition. If not for a few poorly chosen books, the publishing house may have to close its doors. ..
When the young publishing editor realises Harris Shaw still owes the company a book, she sees a way to save the agency. When she pays the grumpy author a visit to remind him of his contractual obligations, however, she is given a less-than-warm welcome. Harris points a shotgun at Lucy and her assistant and rudely asks them to leave. He clearly has no interest in Lucy’s plight and despite the fact that he owes the company another book, he has no interest in doing what is legally right either. ..
Does Harris change his mind?
Lucy is taken aback by the offer, but decides to take it. She knows that if she doesn’t, her company will be sold to Jack and she’ll have no choice but to go out with a whimper.
Lucy backs out of the deal with Jack after learning the terms of the agreement he signed with her father. She reminds Harris of the terms in order to save the company.
Harris reluctantly agrees to do a book tour in order to share his latest novel with the masses. ..
Does the book tour go well?
Harris is determined to ruin the book readings he is forced to undertake on the tour.
He urinates on his books, recites the word “bullshit” instead of reading the text from his book’s pages, and generally acts miserable every time he has to perform in front of a group of onlookers.
Harris’ bad behaviour has caught the attention of millennials, who enjoy his unruly actions and antagonistic demeanour. However, they’re not that keen on buying his books, as word of Harris starts trending online. Despite this, Harris’ popularity remains high thanks to his unruly actions and antagonistic demeanour.
Harris has become an internet sensation, and Lucy decides to capitalize on this by asking young people to record snippets from his book. After uploading this footage on YouTube, she is given the marketing boost she needs to sell the book that Harris has written.
Does Lucy make enough money to save her company?
After reading Harris’s book, Lucy begins to realize that she has a lot of unfinished business with the publishing company. She starts to save the company in order to make sure that it can continue to exist, but her priorities change after learning more about the author’s past.
As the two travelers continue on their road trip, Elizabeth begins to feel more at ease with Lucy and learns more about her history. Elizabeth finds out that it was she, not Lucy’s father, who edited Harris’s most acclaimed novel, “Atomic Autumn.” Elizabeth also learns of her tragic death and how Harris used a line of credit to save the house they lived in together. ..
Lucy finds out that she and her friends are not the only ones with financial problems. She learns that Harris, her friend from college, doesn’t have the money to pay back the loan he took from the bank. He might have to sell his house to get out of trouble.
Lucy has decided to use the money from the book sales to save Harris’s house instead of saving her company. ..
Does Lucy lose the publishing company?
Lucy is forced to sell her home to Jack Sinclair after she can’t keep it afloat.
Despite this, Lucy’s career as a publishing editor does not end. When Harris dies, Lucy finds a note and a key that he has left for her. The key leads to his attic where there are 40 years’ worth of unpublished manuscripts. ..
Lucy has access to Harris’s life’s work, which gives her all she needs to continue her career in the publishing field. While she may have lost the company that she took over from her father, she is still able to live out her career dreams. ..
