James, an unemployed man, loses his job and his pension and healthcare benefits when he takes on private contracting work to support himself and his family. ..
Who does James work for?
James attends the funeral of a former colleague, Mike. After their reunion, James learns that Mike is now working for a private contracting firm. ..
After finding out how well Mike has done financially, Rusty Jennings (Kiefer Sutherland) asks Mike to set up a meeting with the boss of the company, Rusty Jennings. The meeting goes well and James is given the opportunity to take part in his first mission for the mercenary.
What is James’s mission?
Rusty tasks James and Mike with a mission to steal a laptop containing information about a suspected virus. While Mike is carrying out his part of the mission elsewhere, James is asked to carry out surveillance work on a middle-Eastern scientist called Salim who, according to Rusty, is supposedly developing the virus for a Syrian terrorist group. While Mike is carrying out his part of the mission elsewhere, James is asked to carry out surveillance work on Salim in order to gather intelligence about his alleged involvement in developing the virus for Syrian terrorist groups. ..
James finds out that Salim is working on a new project that could potentially threaten the world. He decides to take action and infiltrates the research facility to stop Salim from completing his project.
James and Rusty are tasked with killing Salim, stealing the data from his laptop, and burning down the facility. They are quickly met with resistance from the scientists, who insist that they not harm or kill their colleague. James and Rusty must find a way to get past these obstacles before they can complete their mission.
Is the mission a success?
James and Mike make it out of the facility, but are quickly met with the police. James’ team is killed, but he and Mike make it to an extraction point and escape.
Mike was badly injured in the previous gun battle and found a safe place to hide. James donated some of his blood to Mike and saved his friend’s life. As the final part of their mission, they were to go to Berlin with the secured laptop before returning back to the US to meet with Rusty. ..
The plan is for Mike to go ahead with the laptop while James recuperates for a day before following on.
When James arrives in Berlin, he is not sure where Mike is. He calls Rusty to see if Mike has made it back to the US with the laptop but Rusty tells him that Mike failed to show up. As such, their mission did not go as planned. It can be assumed that Mike is dead and that the intel he received has fallen into the hands of somebody else.
James is meeting with an extraction team when he’s attacked.
James manages to interrogate a member of the squad during the attack. During the interrogation, he finds out the identity of the person who hired them to assassinate him.
Who betrayed James?
Rusty is the person who betrayed James and sent the hit squad to finish him off. He is a dangerous and ruthless individual who has shown no remorse for his actions.
James visits Salim’s wife and finds out that he was given misinformation by Rusty. It turns out that Salim really was trying to find a cure for a virus and that he wasn’t engaged in biowarfare, as James had previously been led to believe by the contractor-in-chief. ..
Rusty may have been working alone when he stole the vaccine data, but Mike may have been part of his plan. ..
When James returns to the United States, he is forced to consider the possibility that Mike is still alive. However, Mike has nothing to do with the betrayal; he only had information about the mission and what Rusty’s clients wanted to do with it.
James decides to take out Rusty, a mercenary who has been terrorizing the town. He and Mike head out to the ranch, but upon arrival, a gunfight ensues. James is able to kill Rusty and his goons, but Mike is injured. On the drive home, Mike sadly dies of his wounds. ..
Does James return to his family?
In the end, James’ search for his father leads him to a place where he finally learns the truth about his dad and what happened to him.
James is hesitant to return home because he knows that the clients who hired Rusty to steal the scientist’s laptop could potentially harm him. By staying away from home and going into hiding, he would protect his family from harm.
In the end, the film ends with James calling out to his son and it is assumed that he then returned to his family. This suggests that James may have been more involved with his son than we initially thought.
The Contractor is a movie that is not only a gripping thriller, but also has some great acting. The story follows the character of David (Tom Hiddleston) as he is hired to work on a construction project. While on the job, David begins to experience strange things happening and soon realizes that he may be in danger. The movie does an excellent job of keeping the viewer on the edge of their seat, and it is one of the most exciting thrillers I have ever seen.
The Ending Explained: In the end, everything was revealed and the characters were finally able to come to terms with what had happened. It was a satisfying ending, but we didn’t predict it. Let us know what you thought in the comments below!
